Silks classes are grouped by grade/age level. Each student starts out learning basic moves and positions. Always, starting out low to the ground, mastering each skill prior to adding height. Every student will progress at their own individual rate, based on strengths and weaknesses. The vast skills and trick variations in aerial silks keeps each student striving for improvement and ensures they will remain engaged in learning.
Aerial hammocks are similar to silks. The difference being that they hang in a loop, much like a swing or standard hammock, as the name implies. That loops acts as support for you, as you are taught how to move and swing through poses and sequences. Much of how this apparatus is used, is derived from pieces of Pilates, calisthenics, dance, and yoga. The low height on the hammocks and our private classroom, may also help those that find silks to be outside of their comfort zone.
Hammock students must be age 13 or older (unless enrolled as a silks student). There are two class styles to choose from: ‘Strengthen and Stretch’ and ‘Hammock Flow’.
‘Strengthen and Stretch’
This class is an overall fitness course that happens on hammocks. The primary focus being the classes name…to strengthen and stretch! The goal is to push each student past their current personal best in both categories. This is a great choice for those simply looking for exercise that is fun and out of the norm.
This class really incorporates the dance and expressive parts of aerial arts. The focus will be more so on fun sequences and fancy poses within the fabric. All of which will be modified when need be. ‘Strengthen and Stretch’ is not a prerequisite for this course. Strength and flexibility will still be tested and built upon within this class, and will still taken at each individuals pace.
